Do I have to pay per graft with Australian Hair Concierge?
Turkey has earned its position as the top global choice for medical tourism and education, attracting patients who seek high-quality, affordable hair transplant services, in addition to training many doctors globally, including Australian specialists.
In 2022, nearly 1 million people visited Turkey for Hair Transplants including 75,000+ Australians, contributing approximately $2 billion in spending, as reported by the Turkish Health Tourism Association.
Is getting a Hair Transplant in Turkey a good idea?
Yes, having your Hair Transplant in Istanbul, Turkey is an excellent choice. The cost of Hair Transplants in Turkey is significantly lower compared to Australia, often 3x less whilst still maintaining the highest level of safety, care and results you’d receive in Australia.
Why do Hair Transplants in Turkey cost significantly less than in Australia?

The cost of a hair transplant in Istanbul, Turkey is typically significantly lower due to several factors, including a lower cost of living, high concentration of experienced and skilled surgeons, high patient volumes, and the relatively inexpensive operation of hair transplant clinics. This allows clinics to offer competitive prices while maintaining high standards of care.
In contrast, Australian clinics handle fewer patients and face much higher operational costs, often resulting in prices that are 3 to 4 times higher for the same procedure. Hair Transplants in Australia often cost $12,000 - $20,000 in some cases, vs under $8,000 in Turkey.
Is there a best time to have a Hair Transplant in Turkey?
While a hair transplant can be done at any time of the year, winter (Nov-Feb) is a popular season for many patients due to the reduced heat and sun exposure compared to the summer (June-Sept) months. Flight prices from Australia to Istanbul and beyond are typically cheaper during the European winter months.

What is the sapphire FUE method?
The Sapphire FUE method uses special sapphire tips to create microchannels in the recipient area. These unique tips allow for smaller, more precise channels to be made for implantation, resulting in a denser and more natural-looking hair transplant.
Additionally, the Sapphire FUE technique minimizes scarring and speeds up the healing process, allowing patients to quickly resume their daily activities after the procedure.
What is Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a treatment that utilizes the patient's own blood to promote healing and enhance the immune response in specific areas of the body. During PRP therapy, the patient's blood is processed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma, which is rich in platelets. These platelets play a crucial role in clotting to stop bleeding and stimulating an immune response to accelerate recovery. The PRP is then injected into the scalp and hair follicles using a syringe.
PRP is commonly used for individuals experiencing hair loss but not yet at a level requiring a hair transplant. Its primary purpose in hair transplantation is as a post-operative treatment to promote faster healing and stimulate hair growth following the procedure.
Are Hair Transplants Safe and Permanent?
Hair transplantation is a well-established and widely practiced procedure with decades of research backing its effectiveness. At our Clinic Partner Estenove, all procedures are performed by highly experienced surgeons with a minimum 10 years of expertise in Hair Transplants. Generally, hair transplantation offers a long-lasting, mostly permanent solution, unless impacted by other health conditions.
How many grafts / follicles will be transplanted?
The number of grafts required for a Hair Transplant depends on the extent of hair loss and the desired density.
After contacting our team, our medical consultants in conjunction with our clinic partners will prepare a diagnosis report, determining the exact number of grafts needed for your procedure.
On average, a hair transplant requires between 3,000 and 5,000 grafts. At Australian Hair Concierge, we do not charge per graft; instead, you will receive the maximum number of grafts necessary for your treatment - no surprise additional costs once you arrive!
Do I have to cut / shave my hair for the procedure?
The treatment method recommended by your doctor will determine the shaving requirements. In the FUE technique, both the donor and recipient areas are typically shaved. In the DHI method, while the donor area needs to be shaved, the recipient area doesn't have to be. However, shaving the recipient area can make the procedure easier for the surgeon.
Do I need to stop taking medication before the Hair Transplant?
Yes, it is important to stop taking certain medications, especially blood thinners, before your hair transplant surgery. You should also discontinue antidepressant medications, painkillers, vitamin E and B supplements, herbal remedies, multivitamins, and other food supplements. However, it’s crucial to consult with your primary care doctor to ensure it's safe to stop taking any of your medications prior to the procedure.
Should I stop smoking & consuming alcohol before the Hair Transplant?
Alcohol consumption and smoking should be stopped at least one week before your hair transplant surgery to maximise outcomes.

After Getting a Hair Transplant

Are there any side effects of a Hair Transplant?
Possible side effects of a hair transplant include swelling, infection, scarring, numbness, and itching. However, these risks can be minimized by carefully following the aftercare instructions and using the prescribed medications and shampoos.
What do you do after a Hair Transplant?
The post-operative instructions include applying a wound dressing to the transplanted area and undergoing PRP therapy to help the transplanted hair follicles heal faster. After your hair transplant, be sure to follow these general guidelines:
  • Rest and avoid physical activities. Take care not to overexert yourself during the recovery period.

  • For the first three days after the procedure, lie on your back with your head elevated at a 45-degree angle to reduce the risk of swelling or bleeding. Avoid touching the transplanted area.

  • Refrain from using alcohol, aspirin or aspirin-containing products, supplements, and avoid smoking.

  • Follow your doctor's instructions carefully regarding hair washing and medication use.
What is shock loss?
Shock loss refers to the shedding of hair strands that are transplanted to the hairless areas after your hair transplant. It occurs due to the procedures performed on the scalp during the transplant. This is a temporary phase, and after it, the hair will grow back thicker and healthier. It's important to understand that hair loss during this stage is a natural part of the process, and the hair will eventually regrow.
Don’t confuse falling hair with the loss of follicles; it's simply the hair shedding and will regrow once your scalp has healed. Regrowth typically takes anywhere from 6 to 12 months, and this is completely normal.
How long until I see results from my Hair Transplant?
Two months after a hair transplant, shock loss typically ends, and the hair roots begin to grow. You may start seeing initial results as early as the third month. However, the final results are generally visible around a year after the procedure. Keep in mind that this timeline can vary from patient to patient, and the information provided is a general estimate based on the average experience. See our Results & Reviews section for more information.

Can transplanted hair fall out?
The hair strands in the donor area (located at the back of the head, near the neck and between the ears) are naturally resistant to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone responsible for hair loss. Since the transplanted hair follicles retain this resistance to DHT, the hair that regrows in the transplanted area will not fall out due to DHT.
When can I go back to the gym after my Hair Transplant?
Physical activities and sports can raise blood pressure and heart rate, which may lead to bleeding in the transplanted areas and potentially damage the hair follicles. To prevent this, we recommend avoiding strenuous activities for about 15 days after your hair transplant. This includes bodybuilding or any heavy exercises that may cause excessive sweating.
Will there be any scarring after a Hair Transplant?
The risk of scarring after a hair transplant has been minimized with the use of FUE and DHI techniques. These methods offer less scarring and a shorter recovery time compared to the outdated FUT method, which is still used in some clinics in Australia.
When can I go back to work after a Hair Transplant?
If you work in an office, you can typically return to work the day after your hair transplant surgery. However, if your job involves physical activity or requires safety equipment, such as a hard hat, it’s recommended to wait at least a week before returning to work.
How should I wash my hair after a Hair Transplant?
The day after your operation, our medical assistants will demonstrate how to properly wash your hair. For the first 10 days, you should wash your hair as instructed. It's important to wash your hair 3 days after the transplant surgery. Additionally, both the donor and transplanted areas will be sensitive for about 15 days, so extra care should be taken during the washing process.
